Periodontology

The Georgian Association of Periodontology – “GeoPerio” – was founded on March 15, 2015. The association was established by periodontist Lali Kochiashvili. At that time, periodontology was a relatively unknown and less popular branch of dentistry in Georgia, making the strengthening of the professional community and the development of the field a significant necessity. The primary goal of creating the association was to promote the importance of periodontology among practicing dentists, as well as in academic circles, among students, and to the general public. Additionally, one of the main directions of “GeoPerio’s” activities became the implementation and dissemination of modern guidelines and international standards of the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) in Georgia. Since its foundation, the association has been actively carrying out professional and educational activities. Within the framework of the organization, local and international meetings, professional courses, conferences, public awareness campaigns, and social media educational projects are regularly held, significantly contributing to the development of periodontology in the country. In 2025, “GeoPerio” became a full member of the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP). This is a major achievement not only for the association but also for the Georgian dental community, as it further strengthens international professional cooperation and creates new opportunities for Georgian doctors to share modern knowledge and experience.
