Residency

The “Dens” Dental Clinic Network is one of the most extensive and advanced dental networks in Georgia, actively involved in both clinical services and the development of professional education.

“Dens” clinic conducts a private residency program in Orthopedic Stomatology. Upon successful completion, graduates are awarded a diploma from the Tbilisi State Medical University (TSMU). The program is designed to enhance the professional qualifications of young dentists and provide them with a comprehensive study of the clinical and theoretical foundations of modern orthopedic dentistry.

The total duration of the residency program is 15 months, which includes:

  • Theoretical part – 6 months

  • Practical part – 9 months

Every year, 15 residents participate in the program, ensuring high-quality individual approaches and practical training.

The Theoretical Course covers the following areas:

  • Materials Science – Fundamentals of the properties and clinical application of modern dental materials;

  • Fixed Prosthodontics – Metal-ceramic, zircon-ceramic, and press-ceramic structures, as well as orthopedic restorations made using digital CEREC technology;

  • Implantology – Orthopedic rehabilitation on implants, including immediate and delayed loading protocols;

  • Removable Prosthodontics – Full, partial, and bugel (clasp) dentures, including Bio Dentaplast system constructions and implant-supported removable dentures;

  • Dental Laboratory Technology – Professional competencies of an orthopedic dentist within the framework of cooperation with laboratory processes.

The Practical Course includes:

  • Parallel to theoretical training, residents work as dental assistants, allowing them to observe diverse clinical cases and gain hands-on experience;

  • Upon starting the practical stage, residents treat patients independently under the constant supervision of experienced doctors;

  • The educational process utilizes the same high-quality materials, technologies, and clinical protocols implemented at “Dens” clinic;

  • Residents are fully provided with all necessary materials and instruments by the clinic;

  • Upon completion of the program, top-performing residents are given the opportunity to continue their professional career within the “Dens” dental network;

  • The curriculum additionally includes presentations, professional courses, and trainings, ensuring the systematic development of modern knowledge and skills.

  • Duration of Study: 11 months

  • Theoretical Part: 4 months

  • Practical Part: 9 months

  • Based on monthly evaluations, high-ranking residents will work for an additional 2 months.

The course includes:

The “Dens” Dental Clinic Network conducts a residency program in Orthodontics, aimed at the systematic development of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in modern orthodontic treatment for young dentists. The program is based on international clinical standards and focuses on the complete mastery of both diagnostic and modern treatment methods.

Duration and Structure of Study

The total duration of the Orthodontic residency program is 22 months. The learning process is built on an integrated model, where theoretical teaching and practical activities take place simultaneously. This approach allows residents to immediately apply their knowledge in clinical practice and progressively develop their professional competencies.

Teaching Methodology and Practical Experience

During the initial stage of training, residents actively participate in the clinical process and familiarize themselves with various types of orthodontic cases. After accumulating professional knowledge and practical experience, they are given the opportunity to independently manage their own patients, although every stage of treatment is conducted under the constant supervision of experienced doctors.

A key component of the program is the rotation principle, through which residents study and practice with four different orthodontists. This allows them to become acquainted with diverse clinical approaches and professional expertise.

Material-Technical Base and Discounted Services

During clinical practice, residents utilize the same high-quality materials and technologies implemented in the daily medical activities of the “Dens” clinic. Furthermore, treatment performed by residents is available to patients at a relatively lower cost, creating additional opportunities for a wide group of patients to receive modern orthodontic services.

Head of the Orthodontic Residency Program: Doctor of Medicine, Natalia Zodelava.

Dens Residency Program in Surgical Dentistry

The Dens 3-month residency program is designed for certified dentists who aim to enhance their surgical competence and begin independent clinical practice. The program integrates fundamental theory with intensive practical training, ensuring comprehensive professional development.

Theoretical Training

The theoretical component provides deep knowledge of the foundations of surgical dentistry and fosters clinical thinking. Residents will study:

  • Comprehensive patient examination and accurate medical history taking.

  • Diagnosis and differential diagnosis of surgical pathologies.

  • Principles of treatment planning and clinical decision-making.

  • Modern standards of asepsis and antisepsis.

  • Pharmacological properties and specifics of local anesthesia application.

  • Organization and essential equipment of a surgical office.

  • Proper selection and utilization of surgical instruments.

  • Indications, contraindications, and potential complications of tooth extraction.

Theoretical education includes lectures, clinical case reviews, and independent work, enabling the resident to correctly evaluate each clinical scenario.

Practical Training

The practical component is the core of the program, conducted in a real clinical environment under the supervision of experienced mentors. Residents will master:

  • Local anesthesia techniques (infiltration, regional, mandibular block, etc.).

  • Tooth extraction — including simple, complex, and retained root cases.

  • Management of semi-impacted and dystopic teeth.

  • Post-extraction wound debridement and care.

  • Prevention and management of complications (alveolitis, bleeding, etc.).

  • Treatment of odontogenic inflammatory processes (abscess drainage, periostitis).

  • Minor surgical interventions (cyst treatment, root apex resection).

  • Soft tissue injury management and suturing.

  • Management of dental traumas (avulsion, fracture).

  • Specifics of surgical interventions in pediatric dentistry.

  • Nuances of primary and permanent tooth extractions.

  • Labial and lingual frenectomy (plastic surgery).

Practical work involves patient reception, diagnostics, treatment planning, and performing direct interventions under mentor supervision.

Outcome

Upon completion of the program, the resident will be prepared to:

  • Independently manage a surgical dental practice.

  • Handle both standard and relatively complex clinical cases.

  • Ensure safe and effective outpatient treatment.
